City Information Group, which promotes business information networking, is hosting a seminar to discuss the causes, consequences and potential solutions of the global financial crisis.
CiG trustee Cressida Godfrey said: “We don’t see this as a dismal period. On the contrary, it could present great opportunities for information professionals because mergers and acquisitions may increase as the value of assets decreases.
“It could be a time for researchers to prove their worth by coming up with innovative ideas as to how the companies they work for can best combat the situation.”
The seminar will take place in central London on 18 March and will include contributions from three City-based professionals.
Saxon Brettell, an economist and head of research in the economic development office at the City of London Corporation, will discuss the forces that drive change in the City and how it can maintain its competitive edge.
Simon McGinn, City property advisory team manager, also at the City of London Corporation, will look at how property, including the availability and construction of office space, is a key indicator of economic strength.
And Goretti Considine, business librarian at the City Business Library, will
examine the support mechanisms for those looking for work in the City and for
companies trying to recruit.
