Microsoft buys data warehousing firm

Microsoft to acquire Datallegro

By Rosalie Marshall 25 Jul 2008

Microsoft has announced it will extend its business intelligence (BI) offerings with an acquisition of data warehouse firm Datallegro for an undisclosed sum.

Datallegro makes high-performance data warehouse appliances, and its technology will be used to enhance Microsoft's BI offerings. Microsoft plans to integrate the new hardware and software with its data management functionality SQL Server.

“The addition of the Datallegro team and its technology will take our data platform to the highest scale of data warehousing,” said Ted Kummert, Microsoft Data and Storage Platform Division vice president.
