EndNote chimes with new search power

Thomson's bibliographic software package, now available in XP and Windows 2000 versions, has improved search and language facilities

Thomson ResearchSoft has released a new version of EndNote, its bibliographic software package that allows authors, researchers and librarians to search online databases, organise their references and create instant bibliographies.

EndNote 9 is now available for Windows 2000 and XP, with a Macintosh version due later this summer.

The software has been given a significant overhaul, aiming to improve search and overall performance, and enhanced Unicode support will give it greater flexibility on the multilingual support front.

"EndNote 9 provides important enhancements for all our users, and establishes an international standard for global research,” claimed David Kochalko, president of Thomson ResearchSoft. "With a new database engine, performance improvements and Unicode, we have built a solid product for research communities worldwide."

Collaboration facilities have also been imporved - EndNote 9 gives greater portability of customised reference field and type information for collaboration with colleagues.

Thomson Scientific simultaneously announced that EndNote has provided over 20 million queries of its Web of Science database in the past 5 years - traffic it described as "heavy usage" and proof that this component of ISI Web of Knowledge benefits from this "unique end user workflow integration".
