Thomson improve Dialog patent data

Family records and abstracts added to improve search tools

IWR Staff, Information World Review 05 Nov 2007

Scientific information provider Thomson has added a range of improvements to its patent search abilities within the Dialog service. The improvements, carried out on the INPADOC/Patent Family and Legal Status database.

Content sets have been added to the INPADOC/Patent Family and Legal Status database, which will increase the content sets available, as well as the search capabilities. INPADOC/Patent Family and Legal Status database, commonly known as File 345 on Dialog, provides information professionals with 62.5 million patents which are represented in 34 million patent family records from 80 countries.

Geoffrey Dick, director of publisher management at Thomson Scientific said, "With the additional content and functionality added to INPADOC database, patent researcher will gain greater insights from patent data." He said users would also find the search a faster and easier task.

Thomson is enhancing the family records to include abstracts, search reports, or both. Cited references are also available now for searching, while Thomson has been standardised for consistency and the date each patent was added to a patent family has been included in the range of data a user can view. European Classification codes have been added to improve the indexing.
