PC help: Organising your files

Use Windows to sort files within folders

By Computeractive staff 14 Oct 2008

A folder containing lots of disordered files can be intimidating. Fortunately, Windows provides a way to calm such chaos.

Click on the View menu at the top of the folder and experiment with the options (Thumbnails, Tiles, Icons, List, Details). Each option lets you view the contents of a folder with a varying degree of detail and ordering.

Also, for folders with lots of different types of file all mixed together, try the ‘Arrange Icons by’ option on the View menu. Sort by Type and this action will neatly order files of the same sort next to each other in the folder.
