Factiva has recognised that information professionals do not always have the time to create market leads for sales teams. Instead, it has taken the core data of its Factiva.com service and applied an interface that answers the questions sales workers have directly.
The Factiva SalesWorks interface differs from the traditional Factiva service that information professionals will be familiar with. The front page has four search windows, allowing for searches on Factiva or by company, industry or executive.
Company information search results appear as a table, with the company name
and industry as hyperlinks taking the users to either the details of the
company,
or to the industry snapshot. The company information page includes full company
contact details, executive names and key financial data. There are also links
to related news stories.
The Industry Snapshots channel features tables containing details of sales growth, net profit and debt-to-equity ratios for certain sectors, as well as links to industry associations and a set of tools for comparing peers and discovering news and analysis.
The advanced search tools allows users to build up a search by selecting a company size, location and financial status.
When IWR tested this site we were frustrated by the fact that search results weren’t cached, and if you used the Back button to return to a results page we’d get a “page cannot be displayed” error. This is a common failing on database driven sites, but not on all.Other than this niggle, the site is, to our mind, a better interface than the standard Factiva site with easier and more intuitive navigation.
