Blogging for beginners: Monitoring Blog monitoring services

IWR takes you back to basics and explains the not-so-dark art of finding  oout who's reading your blog and what they're saying about it

By Davey Winder 11 Jul 2007

If your definition of blog monitoring has less to do with who is talking about your blog, and more about which blogs are talking about your product or area of interest, then there are a number of options available.

As well as the specialist blog search engines , there is an increasing number of blog watching services that will do all the hard work for you and return the results in a structured and detailed report.

Industry heavyweights such as the Factiva Reputation Intelligence tool and Nielsen BuzzMetric’s BlogPulse trend discovery system will add detailed market analysis to the monitoring mix, and there are numerous straightforward clipping agencies that will monitor millions of blogs for any mention of whatever keywords and concepts you require. Although not as cheap as doing it yourself, agencies can monitor a larger number of blogs and filter out the irrelevant to focus on just those posts that are both relevant and timely.
