With the acquisition of 21 journals,Palgrave Macmillan has signalled its
intentions to become a major player in the business journals market.
Titles covering finance, management, marketing and property have been acquired
from London-based Henry Stewart Publications.
“We are committed to building our database of business journals,” said Mariam Hasan, Palgrave Macmillan journals publisher, “and we are looking to invest in business journals.” Dominic Knight, managing director at Palgrave said the acquisition “represents a significant step forwards in the development of our journals programme”.
Palgrave Macmillan already has a strong presence in business book publishing
and was attracted to these titles because they have a strong
readership among practitioners,Hasan said.
Daryn Moody, Henry Stewart Publications managing director, said Palgrave
approached him for the titles and it was the “appropriate
time” to sell. Henry Stewart will use the proceeds from the sale to launch a new
range of titles. “We will not publish titles that directly compete with Palgrave
Macmillan though,” he said.
Henry Stewart also sold six journal titles on financial regulation and property management to Yorkshire- based publisher Emerald in August 2005.
