Thomson Pharma hits 100 targets

A hundred organisations in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors have adopted R&D workflow-integrated offering

By Bobby Pickering 16 Sep 2005

More than 100 organisations in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries have signed up for Thomson Pharma since its launch in January, according to Thomson Scientific.

Thomson Pharma is an information solution that integrates a range of Thomson databases into the workflow of the drug discovery and development process, providing research tools that fulfill the information needs of professionals working at all stages of the drug development pipeline.

It provides content derived from legacy Thomson products, such as Investigational Drugs Database (IDdb), Derwent World Patents Index, Delphion, Web of Science, and Drugdex.

New Jersey-based Davos Chemical Corporation, a supplier of custom made APIs and cGMP intermediates for the pharmaceutical industry, was named as an early adopter.

"Our customers are emerging and multinational pharmaceutical companies, whose requirements range from producing gram quantities of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) for preclinical studies to supplying tons for post-launch," said Brian Robins, vp at Davos.

"Thomson Pharma enables us to keep up-to-date with the latest developments in our customer's pipelines as well as to find potential new customers. We regularly mine the database to find, patents, competitive intelligence and new opportunities."

Ian Tarr, executive vp for Pharmaceutical & Chemical Markets at Thomson Scientific, said its customers regarded Thomson Pharma as a "critical" information resource.

"We accepted the challenge to create a resource that would break down the information barriers to the business-critical content necessary to maintain a competitive advantage," said Tarr.
