Ovid goes multilingual

Medical content delivery specialist Ovid has announced a multilingual web interface, allowing users search in 80 languages than English.

Lingua, unveiled at last month’s Frankfurt Book Fair, allows users search for e-books and journals, can be accessed via an Ovid Gateway account.

Search options include searching by author, concept, journal or subject. Roddy MacLeod, senior subject librarian at the Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, said multi-lingual access tools are becoming increasingly important. “The number of foreign students studying at UK universities continues to grow. Any multi-language content platform tools that facilitate access to reference and research material that might otherwise under-utilised are to be welcomed.” MacLeod added that these will become vital as virtual learning tools become more prevalent.

Lingua was built on Books@Ovid platform, and the same design and navigation structure. Brazilian medical publisher Atheneu Researchers has already agreed to place 650 Spanish Portuguese-language titles on platform.
