Kettering Council is one of 12 local authorities that have opted for the Google Mini enterprise search engine as a result of adopting Jadu, the e-government content management application supplier.
The Google Mini search engine – the blue box smaller brother to the Google Enterprise Search yellow box – has also been integrated as the intranet and external search engine for Kettering .
It has made a “huge difference” to customers, said Marion Goodman, Kettering’s customer services manager. “Our existing search engine was not getting highly relevant results. Results now are far more accurate.”
The new search engine was also faster, taking an average of 0.3 seconds to return results, Goodman said ( click here for more government search news).
Since implementing Google Mini , usage of the Kettering website has increased. “In January, we had 800,000 hits. When we first implemented the content management system, we were getting 100,000 hits a month,” Goodman said.
Customer service managers for the council can now search intranet and external websites simultaneously. According to Goodman, the number of calls to, and face-to-face interactions with, the customer service centre has fallen as web traffic rises.
Suraj Kika, CEO of Jadu , said: “Google Mini can produce mini reports on search terms, so users like Kettering can see what people are looking for.” He added that one Jadu customer was using the reports to improve navigation on its home page.
Jadu specialises in government content management and became a Google enterprise professional partner last year. It has implemented Google Mini for all 12 of its council customers within four months. Jadu has now integrated Google Mini into its eGov Content Server product ( click here for more news on Google enterprise).
