By VNU Staff 11 Apr 2006

Reed Elsevier chief executive Sir Crispin Davis was the highest paid executive at STM publisher Reed Elsevier in 2005, according to the group's annual accounts. He narrowly missed taking home £2m during the year, with the actual amount paid £1,991,516, consisting of a basic salary of £1m, with an annual bonus of £923,343.

Davis was one of four current Reed Elsevier executives to take home more than £1m. His salary makes him one of the most well-rewarded executives at a publishing group, beating Pearson c.e.o. Marjorie Scardino, who made £1.8m in 2005.

Total revenues at Reed Elsevier in 2005 were up 7% at constant currencies, with underlying revenue growth of 5% excluding acquisitions and disposals, up from the 3% underlying growth seen in 2004 ( click here for more Elsevier news).
