Over 10,000 e-books are to be made available via the SpringerLink online platform from Springer, the German scientific, technical and medical (STM) publisher as it enters the e-book era .
"We are convinced that academic citations of Springer's books will increase now that researchers can find relevant book chapters as easily as a recent journal article," said Peter Hendriks, president of global sales and marketing at Springer. The e-books are available via the SpringerLink platform which hosts Springer journal articles online.
The e-book content is available in chapter form to searchers and can be viewed in PDF and HTML document form. Springer e-books are also fully searchable for public search engines such as Google, MSN and Yahoo .
Springer is offering the e-books as complete collections or divided into 12 different topics covering areas such as engineering, mathematics, medicine and computer science. Searchers outside of a subscribing institute will be able to buy single e-books via online distributors.
