Blackwell boss Olivieri moves up at Wiley Blackwell

Major STM deal completed and Olivieri scoops top job

Rene Olivieri, chief executive of Blackwell Publishing , will serve as chief operating officer of the merged global scientific, technical, and medical business, following the conclusion of the acquisition of Blackwell by Wiley.

Wiley said that Blackwell Publishing would be merged with Wiley's STM unit , but gave no further detail. Olivieri will report to Eric Swanson, senior vice president of STM publishing at Wiley. Olivieri willl also co-lead the transition team along with Wiley Europe's c.e.o., Stephen Smith.

The merged STM business is now the largest of the three businesses of John Wiley & Sons; its other businesses are Professional/Trade and Higher Education. William Pesce, Wiley's president and chief executive said: " Wiley begins our third century of publishing by embarking on the path of growth and expansion, with our new colleagues. It is an extraordinary milestone in our Company’s remarkable history."

Wiley paid £572m for the business in November last year.
