Knovel agrees science and tech information boost for UK academia

JISC members from Higher and Further Education libraries to get access to Knovel engineering knowledge

By Daniel Griffin 24 Aug 2007

The Knovel online resource for science and technology references will be available to all JISC (Joint Information Systems Committee) members from UK Higher and Further Education (HE/FE) institutes.

The three-year deal between JISC and the Knovel Corporation means that the UK institutes will be able to subscribe to the scientific, technological and engineering resources from the Knovel knowledge platform.

Commenting on the agreement, Liam Earney, Collections Team Manager, JISC Collections said “Through the use of the JISC Model License, it will be possible for undergraduate and postgraduate students, teaching staff and researchers alike to use Knovel in a variety of ways to enrich education and research. For example content can be incorporated within teaching materials and extracts from these resources can also be used in student assignments and research projects.”

This content is accompanied by tools such as design information, best practice equations and formulas all from relevant engineering disciplines. Knovel contains 1,200 reference works and database information from 40 related publishers and professional bodies.

John Dooley, Vice President of Sales, Knovel added “JISC Collections provides a significant service to UK academic libraries and we are proud of the endorsement from JISC that Knovel is an important resource to universities in the UK and to academic institutions in general.”
