Dennie Heye, information scientist at Shell International Exploration and Production (SIEP) information management services, has been named as the winner of the Special Libraries Association (SLA) Europe information professional award 2008.
The SLA said Heye was chosen for the award due to “Pushing out the boundaries at Shell”. By utilising the traditional information skills of taxonomies, indexing and cataloguing with modern technology, Heye “provided multi-faceted information services to the company’s employees”.
Commenting on the win, Penny Leach, SLA Europe President said ““Dennie is an ‘info pro’ through and through. His enthusiasm for information, people and reading on a personal level has enhanced his ability to ensure the effective dissemination of information around Shell. His bywords are ‘connect not collect’.”
Heye’s involvement with the NVB; the Dutch Library association, and the NIC foundation, which counts leading librarians from corporate and technical academic fields as members, was another factor that helped him clinch the award. As was the contribution he made to the role as international relations chair of the SLA’s division of petroleum and energy resources.
Heye will be collecting his award at the SLA conference in the US next month. He will also be speaking on behalf of the SLA at this years Online Information event in December.
