The American Psychological Association (APA) has agreed a deal with Eduserv, The not for profit IT services organisation, that could mean £1.5 million of savings for UK academic institution who use the service through the organisation

The arrangement will potentially benefit 114 higher and further education institutions in the UK that currently use the selection of APA databases. A 23% reduction on data fees will now be available to institutions than if they subscribed directly to the APA.

In order to realise the full amount of the savings a number of criteria need to be fulfilled by the institutions. For example, over the agreed three year pricing phase, at least 80 institutions must subscribe to two or more APA products through Eduserv. Subscribers will also have the choice of receiving the service from vendors such as EBSCO, Proquest, Wolters Kluwer and the OCLC.

Ross Hayworth, Serials and Electronic Resources Manager at University of Aberdeen, said “Thanks to Eduserv’s negotiations, we will save 75 per cent on the cost of the service fee for subscribing to PsycARTICLES and PsycINFO via EBSCO for the next three years. These resources are a very important tool for students and researchers studying psychology and related subjects at the University of Aberdeen”.
