British Library has appointed Frances Brindle as the director of strategic marketing and communications. Brindle is responsible for developing campaigns and building the brand to meet the needs of a 21st century audience in an increasingly complex and dynamic period.
Brindle is also charged with managing a diverse range of projects from supporting the Library’s increasing digitisation activity and proposition development to implementing fundraising campaigns as well as overseeing the communications, exhibitions and marketing activities of the Library.
She said: “New technologies and advances in digitisation mean that the Library faces many challenges and opportunities. It is important that these are addressed in a strategic manner to reflect the critically important role the Library plays in national life and how we underpin the UK’s research infrastructure.”
Brindle is a graduate of Liverpool and Oxford universities and was the marketing director for Barclays Offshore Banking and more recently the global marketing director for the Financial Times where she developed its ad campaign ‘we live in Financial Times’ and helped re-position the brand globally. Prior to that, she has held marketing roles for Nestlé, ICI, Scottish Courage, Anchor Foods and Allied Bakeries.
Brindle will report to Dame Lynne Brindley, British Library chief executive.
