Although still in beta phase, blinkx is receiving a lot of press at the moment and is shaping up to be an impressive search tool.
Whether or not it will be a threat to Google is still open to debate, as it has a long way to go yet. But the prospects are good.
The program includes a desktop client and an integrated browser tool.
View any page in Internet Explorer and blinkx will search for related news, web pages, videos and blogs on the internet, as well as related documents on your PC. Click on the relevant icon to view the results you want.
The desktop tool can be used to search all of the above and more. It adds email searching to its arsenal, but this is limited to Outlook, Outlook Express and Eudora clients at present.
There is also a blinkx website that can be used to enhance the client search, or perform standalone searches.
There are two versions to choose from - one for users of Internet Explorer, Outlook 2000/XP, Outlook Express or Eudora, and another for users of Mozilla. Simply select the version you require once you've clicked on the download button.
